Ch….Ch…Ch…CHIA. There is no denying the connection between beauty and nutrition. Even one day without proper hydration shows on my face. One of the newest superfoods out there that is worth the hype is the Chia Seed. They are packed with anti-oxidants, protein and fiber. They contain 5 times the calcium of milk, 8 times more omega-3s than salmon, and hold 12 times their weight in water. You can sprinkle them on salads or add to oatmeal….without fearing that you will grow an afro made of sprouts. :)  I throw them in my post-workout smoothie as often as possible and let the little seeds do their magic. The quality of seeds doesn’t vary much between brands. Chia Seeds are readily available at any health food market.

It’s hard to tell right away when adding something to the routine if it’s working. That is not the case with Carlson’s Cod Liver Oil.  If I forget to take it, my skin tells me within a few days. We all hear about fish oil, fish oil, fish oil….so it is hard to know which one to take. A well respect health practitioner, Matia Brizman, who is nothing short of genius, turned me onto Carlson’s. There are SO many supplement companies, but few are registered with the FDA and monitored for standards of purity and potency. This is particularly important when it comes to fish oil, making sure it is free of mercury and other contaminants. To understand the lengths that Carlson’s goes to in order to provide superior supplements, as well as the more important benefits of Cod Liver Oil, such as cancer prevention, you can read an excellent article from Dr. Ben Kim here. However, my area of expertise is beauty and while I can’t tell you what will happen to your heart or joints,  I can emphatically say your skin will be noticeably more supple, soft and hydrated if you get on a roll of taking this daily.  Carlson’s is an excellent source for high quality supplements which can be found on their website if you can’t find the brand locally.

*Remember I am not a doctor, just a make-up artist and beauty junkie, so when it comes to supplements, always do your research on what is ultimately right for your own body. :)

Beauty Product?!? You Betcha. I have been consistently drinking the Greens 1 juice from Press Juicery for months now. Not only do I have more energy, but my nails are stronger, skin is brighter and the whites of my eyes more clear. The difference between pressed juice and juice from a conventional juice bar or most home juicers is the method used to extract the juice from vegetables. Using a hydraulic press, tremendous amounts of pressure are placed on the vegetables, and consequently extracting and preserving maximum amounts of vitamins, nutrients, enzymes and vital trace minerals. In essence, It seems I have been drinking nature’s best nutritional supplement. All my gal pals that have been stopping by Pressed Juice daily agree that we are not imagining the results. If you are not in Los Angeles, look for a juice bar that makes “Pressed” juice in your area. If you can’t find one, Welles is a reputable brand for a home-juicer that uses a Hydraulic Press, rather than traditional Centrifugal extraction. Even though I drink the juice for my overall health, the external benefits, for vanity sake, can not be ignored!

Primping must not be focused on the outside only. What we ingest and how we treat our bodies has a HUGE amount to do with what we look like on the outside. Hair Force by KAL was recommended to me by my hairdresser last year. She saw a huge difference in her clients that were taking it. I had taken hair vitamins before, but the high potency biotin contained in this formula made my hair start to grow like a weed. I actually stopped taking it for awhile because it was nearly “too effective” and I was having to get my dark roots colored more often than I wanted to pay for! I pick this up at my local whole foods, but you can also order online if you can’t find in your hometown. Pretty amazing stuff.
